Experience
I'm a Clinical Psychologist
My name is Brandi Norman, and I hold a Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology. I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Drury University in Springfield, Missouri. Two months after finishing my education at Drury, I enrolled at Forest Institute of Professional Psychology in Springfield, Missouri. I received a Post-Degree Certificate in Marriage and Family Therapy, followed by a Master’s in Clinical Psychology and a Doctorate of Clinical Psychology. I completed my internship at the APA accredited Robert J. Murney Clinic in Springfield.
I finished my Post-Doctoral Residency at Burrell Behavioral Health. During this time, my focus was to learn Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy. I had the opportunity to participate in a
research program sponsored by the National Institute of Mental Health for the Recovery After Initial Schizophrenia Episode (RAISE). Also, I facilitated educational groups for anxiety and depression.
After completing my post-doc, I moved to private practice for four years in Greenfield, Missouri, located in Dade County, which has a population of 8000 individuals in the county. The move was my way of improving the communities in which I served. I felt led to provide services to underprivileged individuals in the city very similar to the one in which I grew up. I was very fortunate to be a part of the Dade County Drug Recovery Treatment Program. Being a part of the recovery treatment program challenged me to work with the court system and judicial administrators. The work was rewarding, as it allowed me to understand that individuals are not their true selves while using substances, and I gleaned greater appreciation and understanding of the processes one must overcome to remain sober.
I moved to Ozark Center, a Community Mental Health Center, in August of 2016. While at Ozark Center, I re-established the Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Team and was the team leader. I was trained in Family-Based Treatment (FBT) for anorexia and bulimia and participated in the multi-disciplinary Eating Disorders team. I administered, scored, and interpreted Bariatric Psychological Evaluations to provide risk/benefits to surgeons at Freeman Health Systems. Finally, I have been working with medical students at Kansas City University since August 2018.
